A "red herring" is an idiom (or a figurative expression) for a piece of information that is introduced to draw attention away from the real facts of a situation. All of your red herring puzzles contain details that are meant to distract you from figuring them out.
What are your thoughts about the distracting suggestions in this puzzle:
While relaxing on the deck outside her cabin one summer evening, Vivian fell into a deep trance-like sleep. When she awoke, she felt as if she had slept for only an hour or two, but it was now the middle of winter. How could this be?
What do you think the clue(s) to solving the puzzle might be?

she crossed the equator. how she was on a cruise ship and fell asleep for a while and crossed the equator in those hours.
how do you know she was on a ship because a deck could be a patio
I think the clues are that shes on a deck and infront of a cabin and she was half asleep i think she was getting dizzy from being outside and thought it was summer but it was actually winter
Donatello: "she's on a deck and in front of a cabin" are, indeed, clues...
They also are part of the deception. "Deck" and "cabin" have more than one meaning.
yes they do they also have the meaning of the deck on a ship possibly more
The clues in this red herring I think are that she fell asleep on a type of ship and crossed over the southern hemisphere into the northern hemisphere.Cabin and deck are the two clues in the red herring. They make you think a little bit more about the herring.
I think the clues are the words deck and cabin because if it was the middle of summer, it just doesn't change to winter in two hours. So some how something had to move like a ship.
I think that "winter" and "summer" are also red herrings. We think of winter as being a time of cold temperatures that bring gray skies, icy winds, and sometimes even snow. We think of summer as being a season of hot temperatures and a time when the sun beats down on us and makes swimming in pools refreshing and wearing shorts and t-shirts comfortable. We also think of winter and summer as being separated by the seasons of spring and fall. It's a challenge to think that a person might cross the equator and immediately move from "winter" into "summer" (or vice versa) and experience no real change in temperature at all.
