Questions to Answer

(Please respond to three in a comment by 11/1/11.)

5. Interpret the underlying meaning of the Chinese legend of the "carp that swims upriver and leaps over waterfalls and becomes a dragon... (which) symbolize(s) wisdom and the power to rule... the highest authority in any society" (pages 210, 225).  Is there a moral, or lesson about life, in this legend?

7. What evidence might be used from the assigned chapters to support the principle that one lie leads to another lie, as expressed in the following stanza from a poem by Francis Duggan:
One lie leads to another lie that always is the case
Your first lie for deception and your second to save face
And when you are faced with the truth the truth you will deny
And to lie to you comes easy so you tell another lie.

9. Investigate Froebel blocks.  What do you know about them from information on page 220, as well as from other research that you undertake?

The reason I think that the author used triangles to decribe the way that Calder, Petra, and Tommy were sitting on page 214 is because this book uses geometry and shapes so it would make sense to use a shape to describe the way that the kids were sitting on the train.

Acacia Scott said...

I think that Petra is showing compassion to Tommy because they need to work together to help solve a way to save the Robie House and save their friendship! They know that they need to work together because Tommy could be a great help by finding things, Petra could be a great help with clues and words, and Calder could also be a great help because he is very good with shapes.

Froebel blocks are basically "play toys" that were used to educate and entertain children by letting their minds think diiferetly by building and playing with the blocks. Frank Lloyd Wright at age 9 used Froebel blocks to help his mind see things differently, that is why and how he became such a great achitect.

Acacia Scott said...

The Chinese legend that the carp that swims upriver and leaps over waterfalls and becomes a dragon which symblizes wisdom and to rule. Frank Lloyd Wright was like the carp, putting all of his effort into architecture and finally when he reached a point where he couldnt "swim" any further he leaped up and became a "dragon" or he became the greatest architect he could be and had all the wisdom from all of his experience with achitecture and since his goal was to not have a house like a box. So, if you really think about it Frank Lloyd Wright was the ruler of the box.
