Prove that the Lines are Coincidental

"The two equations y=3x+5 and 2y=6x+10 would be an example of (coincidental lines), because if you choose the same "x" in both equations, you'll always get "y" that's the same for both equations, too."  (pages 138-9)

Prove this.

x = 3
y = 14
If you put them in both problems they work. y=3x+5,14=33+5 and 2y=6x+10,28=63+10.

The two lines are coincidental because if you have the x then you can get the y and if you have the y then you can get the x. For example, in y=3x+5, you have the y and you get the x. the same thing occurs in the other equation.

X=5 in both equations
In the first equation y=20
When we solve the second equation 2y=40 we prove the statement true y=20 by dividing both sides by 2.

x = 2 in both equations (*=times)
so y = 11 in both equations
y= 3x+5 2y=6x+10
y=3*2+5 2y=6*2+10
y=6+5 2y=12+10
y=11 2y=22
2*11=22
22=22
The two lines are coincidental because if you have the x varible then you can get the y, or if you have the y you can get the x as shown above.

If x=10 in both equations then y has to equal 35 in both equations.
y=3x10(30)+5 which is 35.
2x35=70 so 70=6x10(60)+10
The value of x is the same in both equations and the value of y is the same in both equations. You have to know the value of either x or y to solve the problem.

Both lines are equivalent because if you take y=3x+5 and multiply the whole thing by two you get 2y=6x+10 because all you are doing is multiplying the first line/equation, and everything in it, by two. When you plug in a number for X in both equations you get the same number for the Y.

These lines are coincedental because if you have the x then you can get the y and if you have the y you can get the x. In the equation y=3x+5 you can get the x. This also occurs in other math equations.

If x = 2 than y must equal 11 because if you do the problem (astric stands for multiplucation sign)y=3*x+5.The X has to be 2.So that when you do the problem y=3*(2)X+5 you get 11. Then when you do the second problem you get 11 multipled by 2,so your answer is 22 for the second problem. These lines are absolutley without a doubt concidentel lines because if you have the Y you can find the X and the other way arond.

These lines are coincidental because for x I did 6. For the first equation y would be 23.For the second equaion y would be 46 but the answer you would really get is 96 because at the end after you get the y you have to times that by 2.Both lines are coincidental because you would do the first y witch is 23 and times that by 2 and you get 46 witch is your second answer.

I don't understand this problem. I can't process algebra very well.

y=11 because 2y=6x+10,2y=22, and
x=2, 6x=12 so if the problem is
2y=6x+10 so 12+10=22

y=3x+5 y=11 x=2 so 3x=6 11=6+5=11

y=9
x=3
*=times
:= divided by
sq. = squared

y=x sq.
this is true because 3 sq.= 3*3=9 ( or the value of y)

y:3=x this is true because y:3=3( or the value of x.)

these lines intersect at the coordinates (3,9) which is in the first quadrant.

y=3x+5 2y=6x+10

reduce the second equation:

2/2y=6/2x+10/2
y=3x+5

the 2 equations are the same.

x:5
y:20
I chose these numbers because in problem 1 the numbers would look like this: 20=3x5+5 or 20=15+5 and problem 2 would look like this: 2x20=6x5+10 or 40=30+10.
